Postgraduate
Applications are invited from suitably-qualified graduates who wish to focus their research on German-speaking exile in the UK. A working knowledge of German is required. The successful candidate, who will register at the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies for the PhD/MPhil degree of the University of London, will be able to draw on the expertise of the Institute's Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies.
The award, which is available for three years' full-time or six years’ part-time study, is funded by the Martin Miller and Hannah Norbert-Miller Trust. The successful candidate would normally be expected to take up the award on 1 January or 1 October 2011. The award covers tuition fees and maintenance (the latter at £15,000 per year full-time, or £7,500 per year part-time).
Applicants should send a cv, an outline of their research proposal, and arrange for two academic references to be sent direct to Jane Lewin at the IGRS. The closing date for receipt of applications and references is 5 p.m. on 31 October 2010. Shortlisted candidates are expected to be interviewed late in November.
