Overseas student grants
The offer of a place for full-time study normally entitles overseas applicants to an entry permit to the UK for the duration of the course. If you plan to study part-time, you will need a residence permit granted for reasons other than study.
Overseas students may wish to apply, via their local British Council office, for a British Chevening Scholarship. Commonwealth graduates are eligible to apply for a Commonwealth Scholarship, and US graduates are eligible to apply for a British Marshall Scholarship: in both cases, contact the Association of Commonwealth Universities, 36 Gordon Square, London WC1, UK, tel. +44 (0)20 7387 8572, e-mail info@acu.ac.uk or visit their website at http://www.acu.ac.uk/.
Also available to US graduates are Fulbright Scholarships: contact the Institute of International Education, 809 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY10017, USA. US graduate students should also be aware that the Institute is registered under the Federal Family Education Loan Programme (FFEL): see this School of Advanced Study webpage for full details of how to apply: Federal Loans
Overseas applicants who have lived in the UK (other than for the sole purpose of full-time education) for three consecutive years immediately prior to their application, and refugees and migrant workers (or their children) fulfilling certain criteria, are eligible to apply for AHRC awards for full-time study (fees and maintenance) in the same way as UK and EU students (see above).
