Postgraduate

Resources

The academic libraries in London offer unrivalled resources. Students of the Institute have access to the superb collection of books and journals of the Germanic Studies library, the libraries in other Institutes of the School of Advanced Study, the major college libraries of the University, and Senate House Library, as well as the British Library (the major national copyright library, with outstanding international holdings), which is a ten minute walk away.

The Institute is within five minutes walk of the libraries of the British Film Institute, Birkbeck College, University College, the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies, and the School of Oriental and African Studies. You have additional access (reference only) to the libraries of other University of London Colleges situated elsewhere in and near London: King's College (Strand), the Courtauld Institute (Strand), Queen Mary (Mile End), Goldsmith's College (New Cross), Royal Holloway (Egham, Surrey).

Library orientation sessions (British Library and Senate House Library) are held at the start of the academic year and on-line resources training during the course of the Autumn term.

Several Institutes of the School of Advanced Study (Historical Research, Institute for the Study of the Americas, Commonwealth Studies, Classical Studies, Warburg Institute) and its associated Institute (Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine) have outstanding specialist libraries, to which you also have access: all are within a two to ten minutes walk.

The Institute's students have access to the School of Advanced Study computer facilities, with email and internet connections. A free email address on the SAS server is given to students who would like one - students who wish to retain existing email accounts may access these via the School's computers.
