Welcome to the AHRC National Research Training Network in Modern Languages
The IGRS is delighted to announce the launch of the AHRC National Research Training Network in Modern Languages.
The Network aims to develop and provide subject-specific research training for all UK-registered PhD/MPhil students in Modern Languages, including non-European languages.
Activities are coordinated by different regional hubs across the country. The IGRS administers the network and is the hub for London, the South, and Northern Ireland. The University of Birmingham is the hub for the Midlands and Wales, Leeds University for the North of England, and Glasgow University for Scotland.
Our Research Training Events Portal provides information about events being offered by specialists across the UK, and allows all UK-registered PhD/MPhil students or staff at UK institutions to enquire about and register for events online. Students who attend events sponsored by one of our hubs, and whose institutions subscribe to the Research Training Network, may be eligible to have some of their travel costs reimbursed. (See the reimbursement page for further details.)
Because one of the goals of the network is to share best practice in research training among different institutions of higher education, we particularly encourage staff to attend these events.
In addition to research training events, the network also supports PORT, a site for postgraduate online research training in the various disciplines that comprise the study of Romance, Germanic, and Eastern European languages and cultures.
The AHRC award supports the development and administration of this national collaborative Network, which is hosted by the Institute of Romance & Germanic Studies and is supported by partner institutions across the UK.
